Nutrition & Dietetics

Introduction

The nutrition and dietetics department supports inpatients that require specialised diets and or additional nutrition support during their stay in Clontarf Hospital.

We work closely with our Catering Department, and also as part of the multidisciplinary team to ensure that our nutrition care plans meet the needs of our patients. Evidence shows that being well nourished advances patient healing and increases recovery time.

Service Provided

The nutrition and dietetics department provides the following services:

  • Nutrition support and dietary education for rehab patients.
  • Provision of standardised and specialised diets.
  • On admission patients are nutritionally screened using the Malnutrition Universal Screening Tool (MUST). Those scoring 2 or higher are referred to the dietitian for review.
  • The dietitian and catering department collaborate to meet the nutritional needs of the patients while optimising patient food choice and quality.
